Tech-Savvy

Oh my, good job everyone on getting on and seeing this stuff! For those that entered their answers in comments, thanks for the preview, and maybe I'll print them out before that meeting. Those who just took them down on paper or didn't comment, it's all good, we will be talking more about it then. I have noticed that Doug seems to be our tech-savvy guy, am I right? Many thanks for all the help with comment posting, Doug! Everyone will be getting their own username for this blog soon, so that you guys can post your own comments and even (I think) your own blog postings. I'll just grab email addys and send out the online invites for you to join the group and you're in!

I would guess that you all got to see the changes in the house tonight, yeah? My best friend Sean, my parents and I got a lot of my stuff over there today, so it really started to sink in that it is indeed soon!! I hope you all liked the new sofas! See you all soon!

Who Am I?- Questions for the Journey

"Who am I?" Big question there... for the first meeting, I talked in the last blog about exploring who we are as individuals. It may seem like a pretty big, vague glob to try and widdle away at, so here are some ideas to help rein in the glob (and you don't even have to limit your answers to these questions or to just one answer per question, since there are no right or wrong answers):

1. List your favorite classes in school [choir, biology...]
2. What do you do in your free time (provided you have any)? [talk on the phone, travel...]
3. What is your favorite movie/movie genre? [Monty Python and the Holy Grail, action...]
4. What is your hidden talent? [putting your feet behind your head, beatboxing aka vocal percussion...]
5. What are your not-so-hidden talents? [dancing, math...]
6. What personality traits do you have? [ kind, helpful, outgoing, straightforward...]
7. What is your lifelong dream? [walk on the moon, be a movie star...]
8. What message do you want others to get from you? [Jesus' love, you care...]
9. What is your favorite book? [War of the Worlds/H.G. Wells, The Scarlet Pimpernel/Orczy...]
10. What is your favorite book of the Bible? [Psalms, Ephesians...]
11. What is your favorite song? [You Raise Me Up/Josh Groban, Hallelujah Chorus/Handel...]
12. What is your favorite music genre? [hard rock, classical...]
13. What is your favorite quote? [Rodents of Unusual Size? I don't believe they exist- The Princess Bride, "And the Lord spake unto him saying,"... wrong verse...- Professor Burke]
14. What is your dream job? [boxer, writer...]
15. What is your favorite Bible verse/section? [Philippians 4:6-7, Jeremiah 29:11-13...]

Also, one of the best ways for me to get to know all of you is to get pictures of you, so I will be taking some on our first meeting! No, you don't have to look your best, but just look like yourself! This is the jumping off point, so be ready!

Project Numero Uno: Who Are You?

So the good news is that I am officially signed on as the new youth pastor at VCC! I'm totally thrilled about the endeavor, and all that God has in store with regard to it. I hope that everyone is doing well in their lives right now, and I will be there soon. There are a lot of ideas floating around in my head, and it would be great for some or all of them to come into being.

All that said, there is a little project that will come into play just a little down the road and past the lovely month of May (I'm a poet, and you didn't know it). This is something that has been on my heart for awhile now, and I guess this is the place to get the ball rolling with it. Background story goes that I was musing in the car about a B-Movie (for those who don't know, a "B-Movie" is historically the low-budget, less-than-stellar movie that would come on before the A-List movie at the theatres back in the day. It's also what I call my videotape extravaganzas where we either make up something totally random or have some sort of idea about the theme)... anyhow, while I was musing about different things to do with making a B-Movie with the group, I thought of the twins. I was thinking how neat it would be to use a screen splitting effect and have them together as one person in a shot, only to split out and show that they are two different people. I've often pondered about the life of a twin, and what one of the most important things in meeting people would be communicating that you are two different people. That got me thinking... and thus this focus was born. As you (the youth group) are going to be entering either your first or your last year of high school, one of the most important things is going to be who you are and who you present yourself as. For example, I am (what I consider) a good singer and actress, and that is part of who I am. But there is much more to who I am, as there is much inside of each of you that is part of who you are. So now the crux of the matter (the point)- I would like each of you (and adults, you can do this too!!) to take some time and think about what it is that makes you... well, YOU. Maybe even take the time and write some of it down, and when you think of something else, you can keep track of it. Our first youth meeting (the 7th of June, I think), bring what you wrote. It doesn't have to be a 10-page research paper on the life of Joe McGee, but just little tidbits about you. I will do the same (hey, if I ask it of you, then I should do it too), and we'll talk about it more then. I know this one was long, but I want to save time for discussing what we wrote instead of how God got me thinking about it. Love you all and hope that you have fun with this... it's all about who YOU are!

Rebecca
